I remember being in vacation bible school as a child and learning about Jacob wrestling an angel. I remember looking at the picture in my lesson book and thinking, "did this man really wrestle an angel?" As an adult, I've found myself reading this scripture with a different revelation. I understand that it was a wrestle, a struggle for a blessing.
Jacob's life started out with wrestling. He literally held on to his brother's heel coming out of the womb! In the Faith-It Friday verse, we find Jacob alone, wrestling with a man. This battle proceeded throughout the night. Jacob was wounded during the fight yet he managed to get the very thing he wrestled for...a blessing.
In our Jacob moment, we must persevere! He never gave up and neither can we! Just like Jacob, we will not leave this moment the same way we came into it! We will continue to do the work!
I am tired of the cycles in my life, I need deliverance!
I have to press towards the mark daily! I have to draw near to God that He may draw near to me! I have to repent of my sins and turn to God! I have to submit to God, resist the devil that he may flee! I have to wrestle! Pray without ceasing and fast! Sometimes we may get wounded but we must keep pressing! Sometimes it will hurt but we must keep pursuing it! Sometimes we may feel like God has forsaken us but remember that He will never leave us nor forsake us! We must Faith-It through perseverance!
